fuel problem

O.K. I noticed no posts to other question. Update, If I have to push the shutoff solenoid up after key turned it has to be the problem, right? I took off the fuel filter and it was completely empty after at least an hour pumping the primer pump.

Anyone?

if the filter is empty the lift pump probably died or you have a hole in the line somewhere

Don't replace the solenoid, you will be wasting your money.

The solenoid only lifts when the starter is cranking, on key position holds it.
If it isn't lifting the problem is likely the lift relay on the firewall or a corroded blue wire at the driver's side battery positive.

thanks

Thank you for all the advice, you guys are life savers. You were right, solenoid was fine after relay replaced. But it still won't start and no fuel. How do I test the pump?

I had a crack in the pick up assembly, inside the fuel tank once. It still ran...barely, but took a while to figure out. Maybe another option to look at.

It looks like this. Its a Carter pump the cheapest place I found it was from Cummins. Tell them you have a 95 5.9 Cummins in a Ram and they will set you up. I just replaced mine a few months back and it was about $100.00.

fill your tank up with diesel first. If its low on fuel or even below a quarter tank it is almost imposibe to prime. Fill it first, if you didn't have troube with extended crank before your lines should be fine. try that before replacing anything else.
