Fuel problem

When I punch it or if i am just driving around normal I notice that when i stop and turn the truck off fuel is driping from the top of the tank. I am guessing thats why i have crazy pressure. what is on top of the tank that can be leaking? Has anybody had this problem?

You could be getting fuel from the vents that are open on the top of the tank if you tank is like the 03-up. You could also be getting fuel from the return line that connects there, also you may have to drop tank of rase the bed but i would get under there with a good flashlight and see if it is visable where it is comming from.

Ok I posted this a while back and I did check the tank and I think I found the problem to the leak up there, but I was noticing the other day that there is fuel leaking from where the filter is at. I changed the filter the other day thinking that would fix it but it did not. Now correct me if I am wrong. If I was running at 0psi my truck would be stuttering like if it wants to shut off right? I was driving today and noticed that the fuel pressure dropped down to 0, 1, 2 and even 3 PSI. I never noticed anything with the truck it took off like nothing was wrong with it. As soon as I stop at a light the pressure would jump around 10 down to 8 even up to 12. It was going crazy then I would take off slow and it would drop a little and if I floored it the pressure would drop all the way down to 0, 1, and 2. I did notice that where the water separator valve is at it was leaking a little there. One thing that I did was I had it in park and had my buddy floor it to 2500rpm and that’s when the fuel pressure would drop down to 0 and 1 and I jumped up in the motor and felt around the fuel filter housing and felt no leaks nothing. I can figure where the leak is coming from but there is a lot of fuel around there and around the tank I have checked almost every hose on the lift pump and there are no leaks down there. I’ll say this I think the fuel leak from the tank is when I fill it up and fills up to much so it leaks out of the tank when I do that, but up on the OEM filter housing I don’t know really where it is coming from. How much fuel pressure will the injection pump put out buy it self? And back to my other question would the truck stutter or shut off when running at 0 to 3 PSI?

You may not have a fuel pressure problem. I am on my second Quad Commander fuel pressure sending unit and it just went out. many of us have problems. Several on here have check their fuel pressure with a mech guage and found they have good pressure when the Commander says otherwise.

And back to my other question would the truck stutter or shut off when running at 0 to 3 PSI?[/QUOTE]

no, when my first lp went bad i had no performance problems other than a slight stumble on acceleration at 65 mph+..... my vp 44 was sucking fuel thru the lp, but it apparently wasn't enough.
i changed fuel filters and the lp would not fill the filter canister,so we tested the pump, and it was running but not pumping (this was in 2002)

well the filter canister is allways full I just put that new filter and there was alot of fuel when getting the old one out, and when i had it running i lifted the lever for the water separator and the fuel shoots out like crazy. I am going to check my lift pump now that you say that I am going to make sure that thing is working for sure. Does anybody know any tricks on checking these Walbro lift pumps to see if they are working other then taking a hose off and clicking the key foward i think that would work.
