fuel plate already forward? or backward??

ok guys, im in the driveway right now doing my fuel plate. Im new to this and after taking off the housing i noticed my plate was almost all the way forward already. It moved maybe a 1/16th , or little more forward. I just want to know If thats gonna get me anything.

Also wheres the star wheel from there? and I turn it TOWARDS the motor??

Thanks guys hope to hear soon, its cold!! And i need the truck in the morning.

as long as the tranny will hold it, the more forward the more better

yes, turn the top of the wheel towards the motor... this will move the wheel forward (towards the front of the truck)

there's an allen headed plug on the top of the AFC housing that you removed in order to view the plate... the star wheel is in there.

I believe you can adjust it from the underside of the cover while you've got it off.

the star wheel will probably make a more noticable difference than the plate movement, but it'll help too!

mx261, backing off the star-wheel will give you quicker throttle response. In stock form, fueling is delayed after pushing throttle until the turbo boost pressure is up enough to support a clean burn. This is commonly referred to as "turbo lag". Backing off the star-wheel allows the fueling to start even though there is not enough boost to provide a smoke free burn. This adjustment gives better throttle response at the expense of smoke. The more you back it off, the more it will smoke until turbo pressure is established.

Someone before you knew enough to slide the plate forward. So, your star-wheel may already be backed off. In stock form you can feel the spring tension against the wheel. If it is very weak, lose feeling, or goes sloppy loose with just a couple of adjustment clicks will be indications that the back off adjustment has been done. Doesn't mean that you still can't play with it if you wish.

As proven many times on a dyno, about 1/16" back from full forward results in the most hp gain. Leave it where it was.
