Fuel Leaking On The Starter
Not to highjack this thread, but mine juststarted leakingthe first day of the cold snap here in South Texas. Mine is leaking from the fuel filter canister, where the two wires enter the top of the canister through the rubber plug. Can this plug be replaced? Do I need to get another sensor (I am assuming the wires are a pigtail for the water in fuel sensor)? What is the fix for this?
im curious if its ok to drive this truck a few more times before my package gets in? My fuel pressure when I start it is at 2-4 psi and immediately works its way up to 14psi. After initial start the pressure is fine until i turn the key off and start it again.
I figure it will run just fine with 14psi, and if mine read 2-4psi on startup I wouldn't worry about it. I would be more concerned, though, of drenching my starter with diesel fuel and how that might damage the starter. Don't know if it will, but it doesn't sound good!
Completed the fuel canister housing "reseal" project last night along w/another $)+&*! LP. The top two wires going into it are for the fuel heater the bottow two are for the "water in fuel" sensor. Remove the filter housing, disassemble the top by unscrewing the 3torx screws inside the housing. The fuel heater plate should pop out along with the rubber fitting and two wires but there is no need to remove them completely. Use high temp gasket material on the rubber gasket the two wires go into then slide the rubber plug gasket back into place and the screws. Give it time to dry and re-install everything. Might as well install a new fuel filter at the same time. As it gets colder I believe the small o-ring on the rubber wire plug shrinks allowing the fuel to leak out when under pressure. So far no leaks for me.
