Fuel leak...don't know the part!

Fuel leak...don't know the part!

I've never had a Cummins before and don't have a manual and can't find one in the area. (we're out in the middle of Whoop Whoop)

I need to know what the part is so I can fix it. I know that it's straightforward for all of you cluey people out there but does anyone have a diagram for a 2000 Cummins Turbo Diesel?

The part that is leaking is the cylinder to the right of the engine block. About the size of an old style small Quaker Oats container. Resembles a fuel filter. It's leaking around the top seal.

What is it, and what part would be failing?

I need help asap. I have the truck for sale and this just came up. Thanks!!!!

The cylinder mounted on the right side of the engine about 2/3rds of the way back? Aluminum body with a black plastic cap? That is the fuel filter. The top seals with an O-ring. Most fuel filters come with a new sealing o-ring.

That is a fuel filter allright. Maybe the element is plugged up? Replace it and the o-ring. Should help.

Just to educate me (Inquiring minds want to know...) what might cause the problem?

Is it that new fuel issue I've been hearing about? Or is it a different situation?

Anyway, this is all really interesting now that it's come up.

I don't know if the fuel could have caused your leak or not, it could have been tightened too tight and cracked it . When you replace the filter (if it's been a while) check the top cap for cracks. Don't use the 1/2" square hole to loosen or tighten it, use a 1 1/4" socket instead. The square hole can cause the top to crack. Remember to lube the o ring that comes with the filter and the top is only tightened to 25 ft/lbs of torque.

Just wondered if you had a 97 with a cannister filter, it's different than yours so I'm afraid I can't help.
