Fuel gauge removal
Got the fuel tank out but have been unable to remove the retainer ring. Tried tapping in the ribs and tried removing by hand, no luck. Should I go buy a strap wrench or is there a better way? Thanks, John
Re:Fuel gauge removal
A strap would probably work, but I have had success by placing a blunt punch on one of the ribs and tapping (lightly) with a small hammer. A little goes a long way as you will break the plastic if you are too eager. Make sure you have the entire fixture as clean as possible as I usually find a lot of crud just right to fall in the tank. Good luck.<br>ED

Re:Fuel gauge removal
Drove all over town this morning looking for the wrench. Real strap wrenches are hard to find. Lots of plastic ones with rubber straps, didn't work. Finally realized the local rental outfit might have one. $5.00 and done in about a minute. I made a small brass collar with a set screw on my lathe to retension the wiper. Reinstalled and seems to work fine. After I had the tank back in place and all plumbed I noticed I had cross threaded the retainer ring when reinstalling. Luckily I was able to remove and retighten the ring without removing the tank. One more Dodge challenge abolished!
