Fuel Filter,Pump or Engine - SOLVED!
I had a couple of problems going on that were driving me crazy.
No1. = When starting it first thing in the morning it "Searches" when idling about +/- 50 RPM. Once I drive it for a mile or so and put it in Park it idles just fine?
No.2 = I drive it to work (about 8 miles), Park it for the day and when I get ready to leave it starts fine and seems OK on cloudy or cold days but if it's been in the sun it still starts fine but when I go to pull out into traffic it will barely get out of it's own way. No response to any throttle movement at all. After a 10-20 seconds it will gradually begin to run fine. Today I tried something a little different. I started it and let it idle for 20-30 seconds and then just gradually stepped on the throttle. The RPM maxed out at 1800 with the throttle all the way to the floor and lasted about 20 seconds before beginning to run the RPM's up. I also noted a lot of "White smoke" until the rpm's began to come up.
No.3 = The drivers door was rusting out at the bottom overlap seam.
Thanks to the reply's from CROBTEX and MOPAR1973MAN all of these problems were solved. I finally went to my dealer and spoke with the Service Manager and also asked to speak with their Diesel Tech. Made an appointment and got my truck back last night.
WOW! what a difference, things must have slowly happened over such a long time I never noticed much of a difference. It's like driving a new truck and and even the Auto Transmission is acting like it used to.
Here were the findings right off the service repair paperwork:
1.) "Checked drb and found it had fault p0216 "Fuel injection Pump Timing Failure", truck runs poor, has low power, Checked fuel filter "new", OK, needs Lift pump and injection pump.
2.) Removed all lines and related parts, Removed injection pump and replaced for low power and stalling, truck runs good.
3.) New "Lift Pump Kit" installed. Had to remove fuel tank, remove sending unit, install in-tank fuel pump, install new wiring harness and relay package, removed old engine mount pump and installed block in lines. OK
4.) Installed and Painted "New" drivers door and all attachments.
ALL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY!
Thanks again to Crobtex and Mopar1973man for your replies. I hope maybe my response will help someone else with a similar problem. A truly "Great "forum for information and help
