front end nightmare!

I changed the front right hub assy. on my 98 4x4 with 4 wheel abs. The axle nut stripped the threads on the outer axle so when I replaced the hub and put everything back together I just ran the nut on there the best I could and put in the cotter pin. BAD IDEA! I havent even drove the truck 2 miles on the way to work and the hub came apart and the wheel was flapping. I was almost ran into someones front yard. And no brakes cause the piston got pushed in the caliper when the wheel was flapping. Now My dana 60 is leaking oil where the inner axel goes in. How can I replace the seal and where can I get and outer shaft?

I see that I have to take the differential carrier out to change the seal. I still cant find this outer axle anywhere.

I did not forget the four 12pt bolts. What happened is the new bearing that comes in 1 piece is now in 2 pieces. I think it has something to do with the stripped axel nut because it has to be tourqued at 140ft lbs.

175 ft/lbs is the spec. If the large nut came off, then the bearings in the "hub" will seperate, and the whole mess comes apart. You are correct, you need to drop the ring gear to change the seal.

I thought I would be alright to make it to work this morning. When I took the center cap off of my tire the big bolt and cotter pin fell out.

Do you have a "fleet pride" or other heavy truck place nearby? I would get all my Dana parts from them, in my area it used to be "Universal Joint"

found a fleetpride in greensboro. Do I just tell them 30 spline dana 60 outer axel? Is there a vin number on the axel that they could use for reference?

The Dana axles have a BOM (build of materials) stamped into the axle tube. It might be tough to find, but it is there. Most times they can find what you need just by the application. ie 2000 Ram 2500, etc, etc.

I assume you mean the part that splines to the "hub" assembly? If so I am not sure sorry.
