Front Brakes/Rotors - Need help quick

Hey guys,

Im trying to get my front brakes done before the -25C weather rolls in.

The four bolts that hold the rotor to the knuckle - anyone know off the top of their head what size they are (14mm??) ?? Probably a 12 point socket ??

Can I do this without an impact?

What kinda truck you working on. I believe it's bigger than 14mm, but I could be wrong. You can get it loose with a 1/2" breaker bar. At least I did mine.

Ya should have started soakin the hubs last week with a good penetrating fluid like Aero Kroil. leave the nut on the axle tight until you get the hub to start movin, then take it off. Otherwise the hub tends to seperate. not good. Oh ya you'll need a BFH too.

1 11/16 for axle retaining nut. 14 or 15 on the hub retaining bolts.

14mm 12pt for the bolts. I usually press the hub out with a 15mm 12pt socket, long extension and the power steering, this doens't place any load on the wheel bearing or the brake rotor. (I use the 15mm because if you have a little tilt on the extension you'll kill the smaller socket)
I losen all 4 bolts until they are only aout 4-6 turns in and put the socket with the long extension between the front axle part (dunno the name) and turn the wheel until it just pops the hub lose.

HTH

I 'think' a 9/16 12 point is pretty darn close. I remember helping a buddy and he was using an imperial socket. Although I didn't watch him put it on, he may have used the BFH treatment.

You are still in H*** aren't you.

I now have this mental picture of Dr. Evil wondering around town counting the points on sockets. 1 - 2 - 3.........

Exactly, there only 2 stores I have to check. We dont use metric at work so I cant find any 12 pointers (mine are all sixes). Will have to order one.

And to answer your question my friend Geico, Im still there...but not for long. I suppose I will have to change my Avatar...
