Front axles is rotating when I brake!!!

I have been hearing a wierd noise lately when I applied the brakes. So today I had a friend roll my truck backwards and apply the brakes. The entire front axle is rolling when the brakes are applied. What is loose on my front end that will allow it to rotate? Bad bushings on the control arms????

Thanks...

Dave

Bad cam bolts maybe. Your cam bolts have an egg shaped offset. If the are rounded off, it could allow the axle to shift.

I had the same problem with my truck it turned out to be the top control arm on the drivers side it was the back bolt. So it is going to be in your control arms i think.

Yeah, my bet is that a control arm bolt or two has sheared off. That or the bushings are toasted big time. You NEED to get this fixed immediately, if one bolt has sheared it won't be overly dangerous, but if two have sheared and you can see your axle rotating, this is really dangerous because you only have 2 more locating your front axle. Check the cam bolts, and then take a wrench to every other control arm bolt and check for breakage.

Good luck

bolts

Thanks for the reply guys.... it was a few loose bolts. Bolts did not look loose when inspecting. But I could get quite a few turns out of them... All tight and running good....

Don't know what the torque specs are for '94,
but '02 FSM says 120 ft/lbs for both ends on the upper and 140 ft/lbs for both ends on the lower.

From experience I can say that's a lot of torque, really hard to get enough leverage just lying under the truck.

I would think they 94 would be close to that.
