Four wheel drive questions

My 1994, 5-speed is stuck in 4WD. Any idea why it won't return to 2WD. The 4WD idicator light on the dash has never worked but I can feel it jumping while turning a corner. Any idea on how to get it out of 4WD and how to fix my indicator light on the dash so I can tell when it's in and when it's not?

There are 2 Vacuum lines on your front axel 4x4 engager. Reverse these 2 lines and it should come out. You must have a vacuum problem some where. Either the lines them selves or the switch on top of the transfer case. Let me know if you need more help.

I'm a newbie here so help me out. Where specifically do I locate these two vacuum lines?
Are the hubs always locked in on my truck or do the hubs engage and disengage when the 4WD is engaged?

Any ideas why the indicator won't operate?

Thanks for your information!

Your hubs are always locked. On the passenger side of your front axel you will see a bolted on actuator with 2 vacuum lines and a wire connection. That is your actuator and the wires going into it go to a switch that turns on your 4x4 light in your dash. The bulb could be burn out on your dash or the switch in the actuator might be bad. You should be able to follow the vacuum lines and see if they are bad or even disconnected somewhere. The lines are going to run from the axel to the transfer case and to the engine. Take time to follow the vacuum lines odds are that it is one of these lines. If you have followed the lines and are certain everything is right I would replace the vacuum swith that sits on top of the transfer case ( it is directly on top of the T-Case and has 4 vacuum lines comeing out of it).

tjohnson, the shift lever definately does feel like it s connected - right? we had a problem on our 2000 with the shift linkage popping off - right where it connects to the shift bracket on the trans case. it was a bad plastic bushing. but, you would feel that the shifter wasnt connected to the linkage - it would just slop back and forth.
