Flat Tire!!!!!

I am 200 miles from home, picked up a 1/2" piece of pipe in the front right tire. which is a BFG 285/70/17 MT. My spare is a BFG 265/70/17 AT. IS IT safe to drive the 200 miles back home with two different tires on the front axle. I think I've heard along time ago it will put stress on the front axle. i don't think the new models free wheel like they use to. any help would be greatly appreciated.

first what other choice do u have? second if it was the back and you said u had a limited slip i would tell u to take a front tire and put it on the rear and use the smaller one on the front. the front diff is still an open diff so i think you should be fine.

the size difference between the 2 is only about and inch and the difference in revs per mile is about 650 to 630 I dont think you should have a problem it will be like driveing around a slight curve for what ever distance u have to go. and it will want to drift to the side with the smaller tire.

On the front axle, I would not even be concerned unless you are in four wheel drive. The axle halves are disconnected when not in four wheel drive so one will just turn a little slower.
As mentioned already, just be careful with the steering. It may not handle as you would normally expect it too.

This information is correct for '01 and down.

If you have an '02 or up, the Axle is always connected, and the front driveshaft spins whenever you are moving. (unless you have blown the spider gears out of it sled pulling or something )

Just drive slow? That would be an option, although there is not limited slip in the front differential, even with the Limited slip option.

I was very curious how you put a post up saying you had a flat tire,, 200 miles away from home.

Duh, the same way I posted while I was at the tractor expo in New York even though I live in Virginia. I found a computer in the hotel with internet access.

Read his third post, he's at the inlaws, what else is he going to do but surf?

RamJun, I know about those mother inlaws , but you must have one heck of a long phone cable, or maybe you learned my trick of opening the phone box outside, unplugging thier line and pluging mine in , but still need 2 20 foot cables with connectors (cough cough) I need to go outside and get some air, unplug thiers plug in mine, and then call my beeper on the cell phone, just be sure to NOT put in your #, wife comes to door and says beeper is going off, "crap baby, it's the office, let me check with them, I'll be in the truck so I can get a better signal on the phone" It worked good until she looked out the window and saw the glow of the monitor, got busted, but she didn't say anything
