Exhaust system that sucks (creates a vacuum)
Exhaust system that sucks (creates a vacuum)
I found this web page that has an exhaust system that creates a vacume, they boast that it lowers EGT's and increases HP, Torque and fuel milage.
Has anyone seen or tried this? What do you all think? Check it out at http://thesuteras.com/Aero_truck.pdf

Re:Exhaust system that sucks (creates a vacuum)
Exhaust systems that pull a vacuum tend to be long tube header types. They are designed to utilize the exhaust pulses from other cylinders to help extract gasses from just fired cylinders. If I remember correctly, they work only over a narrow rpm range.
With the CTD exhaust dumping into a common collector (manifold), then going through the turbo, muffler, and associated piping, it's doubtful that just a muffler will do much to extract exhaust gasses.
However, if the entire exhaust system was designed to utilize a venturi effect where the pipe diameter gradually increases (diverges) to the point where the exhaust gasses are at atmospheric pressure when they exit the pipe, it might possibly help. Pipe diameter would be huge at the end. (extracted from Rocket Science 202)
In conclusion, on any turbo charged engine, go with the largest pipe you can fit under the chassis. The mo bigger the pipe, the mo better the flow.

The preceeding was brought to you by;
Shortround's Guided Missile and Laser Repair Place (aka Close Combat Anti Armor Weapons Systems Support Activity).
