engine skipping

I have a 98 24 valve with about 120,000 mi. in just the last week the truck seems to skip or sputter when it calls for power
ie: whenI leave a redlight and accelerate hard it seems to miss or when I go up a hill and call for more power. It seems to run ok at mormal speeds only when you get on it I am going to replace the fuel filter and run some injector cleaner anybody have any other suggestions the truck had a new fuel injector pump at about 92000 and a new transfer pump at about90000

I remember the same thing would happen w/ my old 98 12v'er. I never got around to fixing before it was totaled (darn mustang who ran a stop sign!!!) Someone told me that was normal, just some turbo lag, but I never found out. Just thought I'd let everyone else know about the same thing on the 12v.

Mine got to running crappy and I changed the fuel filter, to see if that was it, after I took off, I drianed all the fuel from it I could into a bowl. When I looked at the bowl, there was 2 big BOOGERS and a lot of grit (looked like real fine sand). I may be looking for a new place to buy fuel because I got to thinking about the parking lot where I buy my fuel, the fueling pads are concrete, but the parking area for trucks is gravel, and where they dump the fuel is in the back, gravel also. It runs just fine now, but what was the boogers????

Ollieman, dont change the filter yet!!! Turn the key and bump the starter, and make sure youre lift pump is working before you do it, or youre truck will NOT start back. My uncle has a 98 24v that was doing this about 2 months ago. He finally changed the fuel filter, and when he did, since the lift pump wasnt working, it would'nt prime enough to get it running. I think you definatley need a new Lift pump. Buy a Fuel Pressure gauge, and put it on your truck, because i think a fuel pressure gauge is very important on a 24v. My uncles truck used to miss and blow blue smoke when you accelerated hard, but it ran fine other than that, but it gradually got to where it did it just going down the road cruising, so i think that is whats wrong with yours. Either be ready to put in a new lift pump, and have it on hand when you change the filter(if you think its bad), or make sure your lift pump is good first. Good luck.

Eric
