engine running

89 non-intercooled 12v
when i put 12 volts to the kill switch it fires and revs up not uncrontrollably just to the governed limit
if i take the 12 volts off the kill switch it idles
if i give it throttle the engine dies
no fueling mods are done yet
what could cause this there is only smoke upon startup then it clears at idle there is no smoke i am clueless
any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Sounds like a pump problem. If you haven't been in there and this just started out of the blue, something's broke.

we took away some fuel which is suspicous since the engine as far as i know
had not been turned up even though the collet nut had been ground off.
and it idled right down.
runs great now.
