Engine overheating

We have a 1999 2500 4wd Dodge diesel with 65,000 miles.
This month pulling a 5th wheel, (8000 lbs) total, and at
an altitude of 9000 feet, it overheated; twice we had to
stop to let the engine cool, the overfill bottle was full and
spilling. I am perplexed, not one of the people I know has
ever had the experience of an diesel overheating; does
anyone have any ideas? The truck never overheats under
normal driving conditions. Please help.

Re:Engine overheating

What BBD said, there was a batch of bad thermostats, I had one on my '99, I cannot make it heat now at all. Used to overheat on any good hill in the summer.
