Engine Not Firing
Engine Not Firing
Very important, I get honorably discharged out of the Marine Corps tomorrow, and my 99 wont start. The starter will turn it over but its not getting fuel. I replaced the fuel filter and bled the fuel system but it just cranks over. One of my trouble codes is the crankshaft position sensor, its been bad for awhile but the engine still ran so I never got to it. Yes I know, but I'm poor. So I got the sensor and am going to install it afterwork. I was just wondering if this would guarantee a fix or is it something else. If that VP44 is out I'm going to be staying in Camp Lejeune a little longer than I wanted. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated. Help me get home to Ohio, a place of Cummins diesels, stacks, skoal rings, and the ol' lady.
Fuel pressure test , from reading posts for a few yrs now , it seems like the lift pump-LP ,fails , but the eng will still suck fuel from tank & run , but this kills the VP , because its working harder , that may or may not be your problem .
But you should add gauges as soon as you can , this cost money , but will cost less in the long run , filling in your truck info , in the user control panel - signature , and location , I see that a little of that in the text of your post , but if its in the places that members look for that info , more should catch it and maybe a member can help .
Some yrs , not sure about 99 , you can get codes by turning key to on/run position 3 times , leaving it in the run/on position the 3rd time , the dash will flash codes , if that yr will do it .
Thanks for being there [ not the war , but serving ] .

When I bled the pump, from the banjo bolt, diesel came out and not air bubbles. But thats on one side. Where do you bled to see if the pump is working? I'd assume the lines at the injectors, thats what we do on Skytrak forklifts with Cummins 4bt's in them when we bled them.
A gauge to check pressure is what you should do .
A little fuel at injectors may not fire , pressure should be check before main pump after filter , and be about 7-14 lbs & not drop below about 4-7 at heavy throttle , I do not remember the exact specs , but those should be close .

Well thanks for the help, were installing that sensor now and crossing our fingers, if that doesnt cut it I'll go your route and be home alil late. Thanks for the advice on the signature and stuff, as I'm not very computer literate.
BTW, I'm in Troy, Ohio...right up the road from Chilicothe.

The murdered Marine Cpl. Marie Lauderbach was from Vandalia, Ohio...(10) miles South of Troy. Her funeral is this Saturday.
