Engine lightno RPM

On my way to work this morning the engine light came on and my RPM needle fell to 0 and after a while came back to normal .I got to say it was -32 whithout windchill,it was at operating temperature before driving off. No lack of power or nothing abnormal.HELP

You might need to check your ECM plug on the driver side above the starter might have some crud in it

Check this article out that I wrote, I had the same problem on my 99' 3500 with the tach dropping to zero then would start reading again.

Your 01 does not have a CKP sensor only a cam posistioning sensor. If it does not do it again I wouldn't worry about it. If it does. Check your enging codes and go from there.

My truck has been falling back to idle all by itself but the tach indicates the proper RPM so your not the only one with strange things going on with this cold weather. Someone can turn this winter off anytime now!!!

My '99 just started doing the SAME thing about 4 days ago. Now it has gotten to the point that sometimes I go to crank it and it acts like it is out of fuel! Called the *********** and they said it was probably the camshaft pos. sensor. When I asked if it was covered under the 100K Cummins warranty they said THIS PART was covered under my 3-36 Dodge. I think this is a load of crap, now my truck starts when it wants to! They were nice enough to give me the part number though (gee whizz, must have hurt them to do that!). Part # 5014994AA (mopar) about $54 for my '99!
