Engine died and won't start and cluster dead

Greetings. Sorry for the double post in two groups, but just noticed the help group. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Started my 2001 this morning. It ran briefly (didn't have a chance to look at oil pressure even) and just died. Dash cluster is dead when trying to re-start now and no activity at all. I'm thinking it's a circuit somewhere, but don't know which one. Turning the key does activate the chime, but nothing else.

Thanks,
AJG

Follow-up

All electrical systems work that are not associated with key being on (i.e. headlights, alarm, locks, etc.). Nothing works in the cluster or when the key is turned on (radio, etc. will not work). Tried to retrieve codes, but cluster stays blank. Borrowed a 9135 obd2 reader from autozone but would only get link error every time. Started fine and as soon as I released the emergency brake, truck died and cluster went dead and turning ignition key will not do anything.

Thanks,
AJG
