Engine died now won't start
Truck had sat for about a week. Was going to be a cold night so plugged it in the night before then in the morning went to start it to warm it up and it started fine. Started to walk back in the house and it sputtered and died. Tried again and just cranked. The water in fuel light had flickered on once the week before real quick and I never did get a chance to drain so thought maybe it iced up or something. Had run perfectly fine though up till then. That was last week, it has sat a week and is starting to warm up again. Tried to start and it would sputter some but not fire yesterday. I plugged it back in last night and tried it today. Had to give it throttle to get it to start and it kinda ran real rough and lots of white smoke then died and won't start again. I turn the drain on the fuel filter and it poured out some just fine. Any ideas on what else to check? Should I see if it will start on ether? Ideas? Thanks.
maybe the lowest 0* over the course of the last 2 weeks when I have had this problem. Today its around 40 I'd say when I just went out and tried 30 min ago or so. Its ran in alot colder weather for sure.
gelled fuel, a friend had this happen to him, we poured alot of howes diesel treatment into his tank and sat under his truck with a blow dryer for a while after we pushed it into the garage and that worked, but you have to make sure you hit ALL of the fuel lines...
I had something similar happen to my '94 several years ago. Turned out that my lift pump had a check valve spring go out, had to replace the lift pump. If you replace the lift pump don't make the error I did and get on the wrong fitting when removing the tube...I ended up twisting the fuel line all up. When I manually pumped the lift pump it didn't 'feel' right, and I never heard fuel flowing through the overflow valve like you should. I've never had straight #2 fuel gel down to 0º but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Other things to check for include a plugged filter, and the strainer screen and heater next to the lift pump. It acts like your fuel shut off solenoid is working properly since it tries to fire, but never hurts to check.
thanks guys, I will prob get a fuel filter next chance I get and change it out topeed of with fuel and see. Its up to 50 degrees out now and I have the battery charger on it currently getting those back up.
got it running again guys, thanks for the advise. Got the charger back on it and tried again and finally started picking up cylinders again. Was way worse than any fuel filter change or anything. Musta gelled, never guessed it would since it was terribly cold as it had been before when it has always ran fine.
