engaging 4x4???PLEASE HELP

Today when driving home from school in the 95 the 4wheel drive engaged by itself. I was coming to a stop...not abruptly....and the rpms slowly kicked up and then the tranny braked as the 4hi gear kicked in. I got out and checked the front shaft...it was spinning whenever the truck was in gear. i played with the 4wd shifter and it didn't seem to have moved but the light was on. It shifted out of 4wd drove normal afterwards. This is the truck I swapped trannies on. I need some help here....what the &^%$ is going on? redwake.

I am lost, you say the TC lever did not seem to have moved, but you shifted it out of 4WD?

One thing is for certain, it had to be a mechanical shift. Did you have to relocate the linkage for the TC when you swapped to the stick? Perhaps the body is rubbing somewhere? Could it be possible a shift fork or slider broke?

I.E. can you still engage as well as disengage 4Hi?

as in.....I just moved the shifter around for a few minutes and then the 4wd light went out and the shaft no longer spun when the truck was in gear. The shifter was fairly lose however.....is it possible that I need to tighten that linkage up so the shifter does not jiggle around and engage?

Yep, that would be the first thing I would do. You should have to physically pull, mine has no jiggle whatsoever.
