Unhappy Emergency! Still Smokin'!!!

Just got done replacing blown turbo. (Thanks to all who helped w/ that diagnosis.) Miraculously found good used one w/ no leaks or play in shaft.

Cranked it up w/ fingers crossed and white smoke is still billowing from exhaust. Only ran 10 seconds and got scared. Is it normal to smoke awhile? Is this just all the oil that had gotten blown into exhaust system? Or is something else wrong?

Carefully followed all procedures when reinstalling turbo, changed oil, put about 5 oz. into oil fitting, rotated impeller by hand many times. It still cranks and runs but smokes just as bad as before. I know for a fact old turbo was completely blown.

HELP! O DEAR GOD PLEASE HELP!
Thanks...

Did you flush the intercooler and pluming ?
You should fill in info on truck in user control pannel , so its easyer to help if we know what you have .
It takes awhile for all that to burn off , but keep checking the fluids just incase .

Nossir, I did not flush the intercooler out. Not sure how. Did remove hoses going to intercooler and poured out about 1/3 pint of oil. Washed them clean and reinstalled.

I have a 97 2500 5.9 12V. automatic. No oil appears when radiatior cap removed or in reservoir bottle. Don't know that it would, though.

Also, I forgot to not in original thread that when I mashed the accelerator a little bit there was an abnormal shaking.

Get that intercooler off of there and clean it out REALLY good. It is bolted infront of the radiator.

Thanks you guys, I'll do that. Not tonight though (dark on e. coast)

Do you think that would make it quit smoking?
Is there any way to tell that I haven't blown the motor or rings or head gasket or I don't even know something else major?
What could the abnormal shaking be attributed to? These symptoms are a first for me. I will flush intercooler out and I could (probably) be wrong, but is that really what's causing this?

Was looking at some old threads.
Could my TIMING have gotten severely screwed when my turbo blew?
It smoked the same as it is now when turbo blew.
Was also thinking wastegate? But that doesn't make much sense?

It still smokes cause there is still oil in the system, you will need to clean the intercooler as said, then drive it for a while to clean the rest out before it cleans up. Sounds like your getting yourself worked up over nothing

The shaking could be caused by slipped timing, I don't now if it would cause it to smoke that bad. Might be something to look into.

Buddy called his daddy who has had problem before. Told me that there is oil everywhere and I need to run it for more than 10 seconds. Suggested I run it for 10 minutes. I did and smoked out the whole holler for about 5 minutes, then it started getting better. After 10 minutes, the cloud was reduced to a puff. Mashed throttle and engine didn't shake anymore.

So it seems you are right, Mr. 4 Wheeler, I was getting to worked up. Started this thread in panic. I can't really blame self for panicking thinking back on the week's events since turbo imploded Monday morning.

I am still concerned about the timing, however, now noticing 'poof' sound from tailpipe, and strange ticking when I give it gas. Will check that. As for the intercooler, I don't know how to flush it out, but budddy's daddy says it will be fine long enough to drive to radiator shop.

Tremendous thanks
