electrical problems

Problems started out as no running lights, pull & checked fuse block & found burnt-out 20 amp fuse ,reinstalled fuse block.do not think 1st problem is related to next problem. Went to start truck no power @ ignition switch,no gauges, indicator lights for 4wheel drive, radio, etc.Did have head lights & running lights .Checked ignition switch, the plug for ignition sw. has 7 wires, pink c/w black line is hot ,jumped to other wires, black ground, red radio, yellow engine turns over.Figured ignition sw. was BO so replaced it---WRONG--- No change. If you look @ the back of fuse block it has 3 copper strips that feed power to the fuses, 2 of these do not have power.I can jump across & get the engine to start.PLEASE HELP Truck Dodge 92 1ton Diesel Automatic.4 x 4

Re:electrical problems

Start out by tracing the circuit from the alternator hot terminal back to the main power block. I suspect you have a blown fusible link. If you do not have the proper repair manual you may be able to get by with Haynes Automotive Manual #30040 (about $15). It does not cover the diesels, but the electrical system for the gas versions are nearly identical with the exception of the starting, fuel heater, and manifold heater relays and those circuits are quite obvious.

Re:electrical problems

most vehicles have a fuseable link in a few spots..I feel one of these have failed .there is probly one down by the starter and on most any relays the factory installed.

Re:electrical problems

The fusible links on your truck are under the hood, sticking out of the main wiring harness below the driver side hood hinge, usually tie-strapped to the harness. give each one a little tug and see if it stretches. If one is burnt, find the short before you replace the link. A notorious place for shorts is in the wiring to the inj. pump, behind the bellcrank plate.
