Angry ecm question?

Does anyone know , if my ecm is fried( as dealer says) would I be able to hold down on my odometer reset and cycle my key and the truck run through its diagnostic checks? I know I messed up and hooked up a Triple dog before it was back to stock setting from the last truck, but they said they get nothing when they hook up to it and it seems pretty convenient that its not an 80 dollar fix and is a 2000 dollar fix.( reflash vs. new ecm). Any thoughts?

I would check fuses, when an aftermarket programer use to malfunction, the drb3 would throw little smilie faces all across the screen, but u could be experiencing a no communication if the truck will start and run. If not contact the tech support from the programer company. That is all i know to do man.

Yes, codes come from the PCM, not the ECM.

THanks guys. I guess this was just an expensive lesson. I got it all fixed now and back to work.

How? What did it take to clear problems with ECM?

On my 02, the key/code trick checks the PCM, a slight pause, then checks the ECM.

Well, the dealer said my old ecm was done so I had to get a new one. However after reading on this site that it is pretty tough to smoke the ecm , I asked for my old one back. They wouldn't reflash it , just said they could not do it. Since I was out of town and didn't really know anyone around, I just paid up and went away with my original and a brand new one. Someday I'll havve it tested and see if I have to go back to that dealer and ask for an explanation.

Pretty tough to smoke one, but not too hard to lock one up as you found out messing with a downloader.
