Defrost only?

I can only get air to come out the defroster. I can get under the dash and manual move the defrost actuator thing and it will go to the vents. I let go & defrost only. The vacum line to actuator is on. I replaced the actuator 1 yr ago. What else do I check?
Thanks CB

dont know about the 97, but check all the vaccumn lines. can you feel any suction at the line when you disconnect it.

I acidentally pulled a line loose installing gauges and all i could get was air out the defrost till i found the leak.trace the line out and check all connections.

Check all the vacuum lines along the firewall under the hood. I've knocked a connection loose working under the hood before (a couple of times). Also had a friend's truck where the line fell against the exhaust housing on the turbo and melted in two.

It's vacuum somewhere.... one of those "odd federal mandates" where if there is a failure air must be directed out the defrost

I have done the same thing,,,,,, two votes for one of the vacuum lines under the hood along the firewall.

Make it three votes for failed vacuum.

If you listen closely you might be able to here it in the cab if its leaking.

i removed the actuator and it operates fine with suction applied. Still no suction from the line that connects to it. I will track down the vacum line from under the hood.
Thanks

I found a hole in the vacum line right by the driver side battery. All seems to work fine now. Should only be few weeks until something else breaks.
Thanks for the replies
