Question Clutch gone?

Not really sure what happened but I was driving and my truck just like slipped out of gear.....ish and lost all drive, I am thinking the clutch went out of it. There were not really any signs of it going bad, it just went out while cruising laong at about 40 and it just let loose. So I am not really sure what happened. I can get it into gear only 1, 2 and 5th gears, and the clutch master cylinder is leaking. I will start tearing into it tomorrow morning and see where that leads me....Also the pedal is harder than normal to depress, if the truck is running I can not get it into any gear. I hoping it is just the clutch, any thoughts yall?

thanks,
Kevin

Same thing happened to me

when i threw out that Centerjunk dual friction... Do urself a favor and if you are on budget get anything but a centerforce. Even a stocker does better. I know from experience....

Im bout 95 percent certain ur clutch is gone... how many miles on it anyways?

ive only got about 85k on it, but i have only owned/driven the truck since 80k so apparently someone(the guy i bought it from) could not drive a stick, hopefully everything else in the trans os good, I am replacing the master and slave cylinders as well

Dont feel too bad..

I threw out a centerforce after 5K miles of owning the truck, the PO had it for 10, his original stocker went 105K miles, so its just wear and tear on these parts. It happens. I have about 30K on a stocker with some minor mods in my truck and well its still holdin up quite well... (if im easy on it)...

A bad clutch will not make it slip out of gear. When you say it 'slipped' out of gear, did the gearshift move into neutral by itself or did the engine just rev up with no power transfer to the wheels?
The other symptoms you describe sound like a bad clutch.

slipped right into nuetral i think, I can treally remember i was talking on my cell phone and trying to figure out what the f just happened, lol. I am not sure whats going on, possibly the input shaft as well. But until i start taking things apart i dont know what is wrong, so i am just going to start with the leaky master cylinder. I can(when engine is off) get the transmission into 1,2, and 5th, but when running i cant get it into any gears. so....

One thing you can try, but be careful. With the engine off and parking brake off, put it in any gear, the lower the better. Push the clutch all the way down and try and start the engine. It the truck moves at all, then it means that the clutch is not releasing, but that is where you need to be careful because if the engine starts and the clutch does not release, then it keeps going. Be prepared for this.
I am still a bit suspicious of the fact that you said it 'slipped' out of gear. If it really did that, then it is NOT a clutch problem, but rather something in the tranni itself, such as a bad synchro.
Need more info before I can hazard any other guesses.
Keep us posted on what you find.

thanks for you input, it really did just come out of gear, I was cruising along on level ground when the engine rpms went way up and i had no power to the ground.

If it only slipped out of gear once, then it could be for a variety of reasons that are not worth while guessing at right now. Go and drive it and only if it does it again start figuring out what to do.
Fix the leaky master cylinder as that could cause a draggy clutch and make it hard to get into gear. Could under some circumstances cause premature synchro wear.

cool, at lunch i will try the put it into gear and crank it see if i can get it to move to rule out some things, ill let you know what i find out, in the event of having to rebuild the trans, how much can i get hole rebuild kit for or something like that , that has all the updates and what not, I have a good friend that works at dodge as amechanic who has rebuilt a few of my friends transmissions but he cant do as well on parts as i had hoped...if you know of any place let me know, just to get things in mind if that may be the case

thanks,
kevin

ok, so at lunch i went home and put the truck in first and put the clutch to the floor then i cranked her and she moved, what does that tell you? no wierd sounds are coming from the gearbox when the truck is running and in nuetral, it wanted to hop alot until i let the clutch completly out in first gear then she went along smooth until i turned the truck off......so I am at a loss, I may just replace the slave and master cylinders and then remove the trans if the slave and master cylinders dont do the trick.???sound good?? is there any more info i can let you know?
