Question Clicking sound when making a left turn . . .

I'm afraid to ask, but my truck has started making a clicking sound when I make a fairly sharp left turn . .. . .like pulling into a parking space. It is a 4x4 if that matters. Any ideas? I have to take it to the shop because the trailer lights are working, so might as well have them look at this, but would like to have some ideas on what it might be before I take it in. On front wheel drive cars, that sound would mean that a diff went bad.

Try turning your signal off when you turn and see if the clicking goes away

Could be a lot of things. Maybe a tire rubbing on something that came loose.......Maybe an axle stub u-joint failing?

I'll look to see if anything is rubbing. It makes the sound at about every 1 revolution of the tire, it isn't a "constant" sound. Thanks!

My guess would be a failing U-joint.

Yeah, I agree with Redneck1. If it happens every tire revolution, failing axle u-joint. Same thing happen on a K-5 I had with a Dana 60 (14 bolt in rear). It lasted about a day before the the thing snapped. Then again 36' swampers 4.56:1 gearing, detroit lockers front and rear, muncie 4 spd and rocks don't play too well together..............

Well . . . took it to the dealer today and everything looks good. It ended up being the chrome covers on the steel wheels flexing when the wheel is turned sharply. One one front wheel makes the noise, but is quiet when they are straight. They said they would order me a new wheel if I wanted. I decided to hold off to see if it gets worse or stays the same. It's not a big deal if it's just the wheel flexing . . . . didn't want to be pulling my 10K lb trailer at 70mph in two weeks and have my u-joints coming apart

Thanks for your posts.
