Chrome on Plastic Rims tearing

Has anyone else had problems with the chrome on rear rims tearing?
This occurs when they remove them to rotate or change tires. The tool
used to remove the rim rips the chrome right off. I have already replaced
2 and at $120 a pop.

There is a used 03 on the local lot with big chunks of chrome missing. Appears to be plastic-chrome skin pressed onto steel wheel...

You need to find a better tire shop. If I understand you right when they change tires they are damaging the rims? The tire seperators should never even touch the rims. There should be zero damage to the rims after changing tires. Chrome is kinda like paint; not meant to bend at all.

Just so there is no misunderstanding. Its the chrome plated hub caps that
the tool is being damaged. The tool for removing the caps has a rubber
bumper on one side and a bent fork on the other. When they pry back
the hub cap to remove it the area that the fork is pushing against peels
the chrome.
Both companys that have removed these hub caps are now telling me to
remove them before they service the truck. It has cost both of them 120.00

Try taking them off yourself before you go have it serviced, and then slap them back on when you get to the house.

Shawn, are you saying that DC wants $120 for one of those ugly plastic hubcaps!? I think the half-moons found on Duallies look much better because hubcaps are supposed to hide the lug nuts, not simulate them. The question is do they fit on a SRW. Better yet, does anyone know of an aftermarket alternative, OEM style, half-moon or otherwise?

I had to rig up a small hook on my transmission slide hammer to get those pita center caps off. Designed to go on, not to come off. Before that I would just pry on the outer shell around the circumferance of the wheel until the center popped off.
