Charging Fuse
Charging Fuse
Hi All,
Got sloppy with a wrench last night and took the main alternator post to ground
(yeah, I know...disconnect the batts before doing any work).
I'm really hoping this is a simple fuse change out....anybody know the rating or a P/N?
Local dealer dosn't know
Thanks guys.

Under your hood on the drivers' side there is the Power Distribution Center. Take the cover off and you should see the fuse. According to my book it is a 120 Amp fuse. I find it hard to believe that any dealership would hire someone who doesn't even know how to look something like that up in a book or computer. If I can find it anybody should be able to.
Like Mn Tom said, it's the main fuse located in the power distribution (sp?) center ubder the hood, driver's side close to the battery.
I think the dealer part is like $20 bucks. Any descent auto parts store will have the 120 mp fuse, but it is in a slightly different configuration. The lugs are straight and your have a 90 degree bend. Simple enough to bend the copper tabs to fit. You'll see what I'm talking about when you remove the cover to the box. It's the fuse that sits close to where the positive power cable enters the box. Simple fix for about 5 bucks and five minutes.
As far as the hot lug on the alternator, a rubber cap, or some plumbers putty shoved in the recess will keep you out of trouble next time. Good luck.

Yes that sounds
famliar if I remember correctly although it is a 140 A. I was sloppy with the oil filter wrench one day with my lack of patiance.(MY posteriar.) I had to go 80 km's to get one and be driven in a FORD Avalance at that. When it was blown I sure got some very high voltages I certainly wouldn't have wanted to drive it !!!!!
