Need more info on your truck, fill out your sig using the user CP option top left.

What were your symptoms that lead to the LP change. If your a 2nd gen crack the first 3 injectors to purge the air from the lines. If your a 3rd gen don't.

Good luck.

does adding that pump require going anything to the tank ? the instructions bd sent me were pretty short .. it said i had to remove the olr lift pump form behind the filter housing, but what i removed was just a block the fuel ran through, not a lp ...

Did you try and crack the lines at a couple of the injectors?

When I put my pump in I had to bleed out a couple of the lines right at the valve cover. Once I got fuel there it started right up and ran rough for a few seconds.

Also, are you sure you don't have an in tank pump? If you do, Im not sure how well a pump will pull fuel through it. You may need to get rid of it.

Im no expert but hopefully this helps a little.

Have a good one.

I changed the order of your quote here;

That is because you have an in-tank lift pump (or other after market pump) installed by/for a previous owner. It seems you are now attempting to have the Carter pull fuel from the tank, through the in-tank lift pump which is more work than it is designed for. Keep that block on the back of the filter, it is needed to feed fuel from your new LP to the filter.

Yeah, in your case it does. You will need to find and pull the lift pump you are attempting to replace and add a dip tube (?). Maybe someone else can help here too, cause if you actually have an in-tank pump, and pull it, then you have to replace that with just the sending unit (tank level) which has the dip tube.
Good Luck, have fun,

I don't think so. Another piece of info that makes me not think so is the fact you can't start your engine. Hopefully, SOMEBODY is out there that has added an aftermarket pump and can tell you for a fact the in-tank pump has to be pulled. Where did you get that pump? Any support there?

OK , there is or is not a Lift pump mounted to the engine behind the fuel filter.
Is this where you removed the plug from ?

If no LP at engine , is there anything in front of the fuel tank. ?

Did you 'kick' the starter a few times to here the lp run and see if fuel comes out at the Inj pump.?
Hard to understand where your at.

kick the starter, , should here carter run for about 30 sec
than try hooking back up the wire you removed, and repeat process.
should hear tank lp run 30 seconds...If there is one....

And you do need a fuel pressure gage...
