Can't get the VB off!!!
Can't get the VB off!!!
I'm in the middle of swapping valve bodies, and I have all of the bolts out of the VB itself, it is jus tthe shift post that is holding me up. How do you get the thing off...
... I pulled the 2 bolts and square nuts off thinking they went through the post, but now I don't think they do, and I think I took them off needlessly. A bunch of you guys have done this before, so how do I do it? I need to have this done by tonight, so please help me!!! Otherwise I'll be left putting everything back together with old parts and we all hate that!

did you get the little circlip off?
Everything unplugged?
1. Starting at the transmission, remove the kick down lever and spring as well as the hitch/clevis pin from the shifter rod. DO NOT lose the wave washer.
2. Rotate the shift lever to the rear of the vehicle to place the transmission in the PARK position.
3. Loosen the shift lever bolt then rotate the lever towards the front of the truck, shifting the transmission into 1st / LOW position. This allows for the removal of the Park Rod E-clip without dropping the valve body. Remove the shift lever.
4. Disconnect the wiring connectors from the Neutral Safety switch and valve body, and then remove the Neutral Safety switch.
5. Install a large drain pan under the transmission, remove the oil pan, drain the transmission oil, and then remove the filter.
6. Carefully remove the E-clip from the park rod, leaving the park rod in the transmission.
7. Remove the 10 valve body bolts, remembering the location of the different bolts.
8. When lowering the valve body, gently work it around so that the park rod lever is left in the transmission, and ensure the electrical plug is not damaged in the removal process.
9. CAUTION - As you lower the valve body, watch for the accumulator piston and spring falling out.
I borrowed this from the BD website. If you need more go into the manuals section, it is there just gotta look for it.

Most of the time you have to put a screw driver or something into the "split" in the shift lever arm and the kickdown arm to get them to slide off of the shaft. Really after that and the park rod clip, just a little wiggling and it should come right down. **** NOTE**** Watch the accumulator when you drop the valve body. There is a plastic piston and a spring. Watch with way they come out to be able to put back together right the first time!
Alright I got it out, but the park rod is near impossible to get off without pulling it out. So now I have the VB put back together, and I'm trying to get it back up into the trans, but the kick down/shift tower (the front post that slides into the trans housing) won't slide up, and if it does the VB is clocked and the accumulator piston won't slide up into place. So how exactly does the park rod work, and is there any way to put the VB back in without taking off the park rod and put it in seperately?
did you read the instructions that i linked to? It shouldn't be too hard if i can do it.
Take a break and drink a beer
Once you are relaxed get back to it and study why it isn't going well. It should all fall into place.

Yea I read the instructions, got it all back together and now it won't shift into 1st or 2nd gear when I come to a stop. Will this happen if the Line pressure is too high? I'm thinking about putting the stock spring back on the regulator, its killing me having to manually shift down at every stop.
