A/C help...
A/C help...
well its getting very warm here, and my ac compressor isn't kicking on, when I turn it from normal to AC it doesn't change, even using defroster, still just blows normal air, anything I can look for to diagnose the problem? thanks.
First thing to do is check the high pressure switch, make sure that it is not bad. Check the fuses, too. Start with the cheapest stuff first. When you pull the plug for the high pressure switch, short it with a paper clip or something. If the compressor kicks on when you do that, you know it's the switch.
A/C systems usually stop working because of low freon charge. If the compressor clutch cycles on then off immediately after turning the A/C on it's probably low on r134a. You may need a helper to turn the A/C on while you are watching the clutch on the compressor.
At this point it's your option to find the leak and then recharge the system or just recharge it. Wal Mart sells a kit for recharging which will be the cheapest solution. Having the system fixed and properly recharged by a professional will be the most expensive and theoretically the longest lasting solution.
