Bypass diesel emission system
Bypass diesel emission system
My 2019 Dodge Ram broke down and the emission system is not covered by my warranty. This is my first diesel truck. I was told by the dealer I didn’t need to do a long warm up due the new type of engine. Now they are saying that basically it’s my fault. I bought this truck in March. I don’t get to do alot of long drives, I live on an Island. I guess my main question is if we bypass the DES it has been suggested that my warranty is no longer valid. But if it’s not covered anyway what’s the difference? Does this affect the performance of my truck? Some say it improves it. The other option is repairing it for $6,000. $3,000 to bypass. I’m still waiting to hear from the dealer. They also offered to give me market value as a trade. I just don’t trust any of these guys and have no idea what best thing to do is. TIA for suggestions
Did you get the codes read? If so, please share. It might be as simple as cleaning out the DEF Injector which is a 20-30 min procedure. Dealers don't want to do that, they are more interested in replacing parts and making that $,$$$.

Good morning, Kim,
If you are even just slightly mechanically inclined, you can clean your DEF injector.
will show you pretty much where the injector is and how to take it out and put it back in. His injector wasn't too bad and I don't know why he needs to clean it monthly. I cleaned mine in about 30 min and it was really, really caked in DEF crystals. You can do a search on Youtube for more videos, different years, but the injector cleaning is pretty much the same. I didn't use water. I picked at the DEF solids and broke it up real good, and picked the solids from where the injector plugs into also. Put it all together and all is good. Cost? ZERO bucks.
The tools you will need to pull the injector is a 10mm socket and wrench. Some of the videos show you how to remove the electrical and DEF connectors, I didn't remove either, just worked under the truck. My truck had about 80k miles on it at the time. Although it took me 30 min to do mine, I have medical issues that slowed me down.
