broken suspension..

ok, driving down the road yesterday cruising at about 45-50 mph i hear this huge bang and the rear of the truck bounced up. I immediatley pulled over and checkedf to see if i hit something and i couldnt find anything at first glance then i continued home, once i got home i did a thorough search of the rear suspension. Sure enopuhgh i found the spring shackle to have rotted away and broke. Where can i find a new kit for the rear of the truck? Im gonna have to torch those suckers off so i need everything!!! Any ideas will be appreciated as i need the truck asap!!
thanks in advance
John

Go to a heavy truck shop, they can probably bend you up some new u-bolts while you wait.

i got my isspro gauges from Genosgarage.com. They were about 300 dollars with everything, not very cheap....

Alrighty, the part broken on my truck is the spring shackle that holds it to the frame of the truck. The spring is against the bed now, but the u bolts are still attached to the axle those are fine. I am prob gonna try the dealer, but i hate going to them . i need a kit with the bushings, and bolts and the bracket, but thats it.

The spring hanger rusted off the truck?? , I would check the rest of the frame before I spent more money on it!!

I was going to suggest just welding it, but McMopar is right - check the frame!

I've never seen one rusted out like that...

haha, its not the mount to the frame. It is specifically call the spring shackle.
Its the part through the end of the leaf itself and them bolts to the mount on the frame(detached in this pick, hthis is from a lower kit installation page... not my truck...). The truck has minimal rust, the only rust on this thing is the drums and rotors... my ram is in awesome condition for a new england truck, trust me!!! any way thanks for the inpput....
would this be dealer itenm? or could a sm,all shop get one you think, so far all i found was lower kits but those are not touching my truck if anything its gonn get lifted (dreaming again)

same thing happened to a friend of mine that owns a 1500. the shacke rotted off allowing the spring to hit the bed.
He got a new one made up from a shop that does leaf springs for trucks. It wasnt cheap, but cheaper than the dealer for sure.
Ive got rust on mine so I did the POR-15 treatment on them to keep them from rotting

There are some velvet ride shackles out there- won't lift or lower just make it ride better ( at least they advertise it does) didn't seem too outrageous $$$ wise to me then...

http://www.drivetrain.com/velvetride.html

But I never tried them myself..

Im just curious, and don't mean to offend, but didn't you notice the rust and/or corossion? I'm constantly looking at things onmy truck, just to keep an eye on them. I look into the fender wells at least once a week. I don't picture how someone can say thier suspension rotted away and they never noticed it untill the leaf springs broke off.

If you need just the spring shackle why not try an auto wreckers. They probably have a wrecked truck in the yard and can go out and torch one off and not cost the price of a new one. Cut the rivits off on yours, get the right size bolts and your in buisness...
