broke the return tube off of my lift pump

After installing my air dog system I was trying to bolt my fuel tank back up. I had a floor jack under it and had my wife on the floor jack and she slipped and the tank fell breaking my return line tube off the front of it. I don't want to buy a new lift pump or a used one for that matter for nothing more than a return line. Can i hook this line up to one of the vent tubes or is there any other way? I am leaking diesel now out of the back of the head and i never had this trouble before. I have already tried to hook this return line up a couple different ways. The first time I tried running a smaller line into the hole inside the return line thinking there wasn't any pressure on it but it leaked so i dropped the tank again and hooked into the vent tube with a bigger fuel line. It is still leaking at the back of the head and I was wondering if the return line not being able to flow enough could build up pressure and hurt something. Thanks for any help. Figured I needed to post this on the emergency side b/c I'm about ready to burn this sucker to the ground soon.

You know I tried to get my wife on the floor jack but she wouldn't go for it. I unbolted the bed and lifted it up that way sounds like I was lucky she didn't go for it.
