If I remember right you are in a pretty desolate stretch, your best bet is to probably get it back into Springfield and get it looked at there.

I used to live in Joplin. There are a few shops there that are good but it's been while since I was there. Joplin is a cross road so there good places. South side on the way to Tulsa if I remember right.

Springfield also has good places too. You will have to just get the phone book.
I doubt there is much open today but at least there are nice motels nearby.
Sorry for your heart ache.

left truck at a shop in Marshville Mo for repair and rented a car to get home. They haven't been able to determine what the problem is (Monday)
Guy in shop also expected flex plate.
Question: If it is flexplate the tranny would have to be dropped correct ? We have been expeirencing a drastic drop in fuel milage and was suggested to me it could be the torque converter --240,000 on truck ---should i change the ttorque convertor while ii is tore down ?

Herb,

I just had the 05 go sideways on me a couple weeks back. no warning, started puking oil out the front pump seal.

On removal, could not turn the input or output shafts without using considerable force. So, given the circumstance, and the flaring shifts / hunting that the 05 48re was famous for. it got a couple new things

New billet flexplate/billet triple disc TC, pump, billet input shaft and drum, upgraded planetary sets, upgraded thrust setup with torrington bearing, billet intermediate shaft. upgraded the fibers and steels while in there, and went with a dunrite valve body setup going 90 psi line pressure idle, and 185 - 195 psi WOT in drive.

Thing cost a couple bucks, but it shifts now, and really smooth. I am impressed by how it puts the power down, and I have to be honest, I absolutely CANNOT stand automatic transmissions. I won't own one in anything that I drive.

When torn down, the reason behind the failure, 3rd gear had let go, clutches and band. Pooftygonebyebyesucker.

Good luck with it.
