I used to be a gm dealer tech and got sick of workin on cars and complaining customers you know the old you changed my oil now the trunk release doesen't work type people,

only p code is still the 1693, and unfortunatly the friends i have in the buisness their shops do not work on diesels except 1 guy but his is a tractor diesel shop other then that noone here works on diesels, maybe the dealer but I would rather get another truck then let those a holes work on it and charge me out the a&^, diesels are not big round here so they probly don't have anyone knowledgable to work on it just someone to do the same as i am doing check codes and try to research the problem, hopefully the codes will shed some lite on this, one thing I noticed today the lp is not always running the alotted time/building pressure when you first turn the key

One thing to try would be to use the stock wiring harness for the LP to switch a relay instead of running the pump directly. This way the load of the motor is on the electrical system instead of the ECM. I did that on mine...just to isolate the pump electrically. It is fused on its own in case something happens. I hope you can figure out what is up.

This forum has helped me fix stuff many times and I am very appreciative.

No I think that is a different relay. But to be honest...I'm not sure. When I added the additional relay it seemed to make the voltage to the LP more consistant. I also wanted to be able to mess around with things and isolate the ECM. I like to "tinker."

the P1698 code is a lack of connection to the PCM. It could be a loose wire I hope it is nothing more major. From what I have researched the truck may still run. Does the horn still work? Some people have said that when the engine light is off the horn won't work. I think it might be time to have it looked at...

I hope it all works out for you. I'm glad it is running.

Here's what the code is.

1698 No CCD Messages received from PCM Bus communication failure to PCM. A Companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM.

When the injection pump went bad on my old vp truck, I did have some fuel at the injectors when I cracked the lines. So that was leading me to believe it was a bad pcm. I took the pcm to a cummins dealer and they tested it, came back ok.

I did have fuel at the injectors but it was not spraying all over the place. So I replaced the pump and thats what it was.

When mine died it got a dead peddle for about 5 seconds while driving down the road, then continued on like nothing happened. That was in the middle of the day. Later on that night after picking up my dad and going to the county fair and on our way home from the fair that night I got the dead peddle again but this time it didn't come back. I could get the truck to start and run very rough but wouldn't rev at all.

So this being said, sometimes the pump can quit and decide to start working again. But I would hate for you to spend the money to replace the pump if you are not for sure that is what it is.

Good Luck
Cory

well I guess it will sit and i will have to get another mode to get around, it is around 30* here and rain on and off so the truck will sit since it still starts so I can move it out of the way if need be, can't afford to keep having it towed

as for my dealer comments the local dealer here already tried raping me and talking me into a new truck, I bought this truck cash and could have bought a new one but i wanted this body so... they can kiss my a&* they will get no buisness from me

I have not disconnected the batterys what would that do? just curious

well it is 21* here and she fired right up no problems and ran for 20 minutes while i pulled wiggled and moved every wire and connector i could find under the hood no problems all the grounds i can find look feel tight and look clean, where is the ecm located i see the abs controler the, computer on the vp44,and the trans controler on the pass side firewall, think i need to find someone that knows what the normal sensor paramaters are to look at the truck with a snapon tool, i can look at the info and know what the sensors are but no idea what normal is, at idle i am pushing 20+ psi on the gauge

another Q when the truck is cycling in warm up mode how low should the volt gauge go?
