Broke Down

I was driving to work on Wed and my 06 5.9L was running fine. I parked to do morning work and then left to go to another job. Fuel was reading just below a quarter of a tank and havent had an issue with it before then. I was just getting up to cruising speed and the truck acted like it ran out of fuel. I got it to the side of the road and it would crank but wouldnt start. I didnt know where to start looking. I am pretty new to the diesel world but am not scared to tackle this on my own if its something small. Could i get some pointers on where to start looking?? Also for the past week or so there has been a clicking sound from the engine only when the trans is in drive.

fill your fuel tank, it doesn't cost any more to run off the top half as the bottom half

Do you have any codes?

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...s-t224833.html

It sounds like a lift pump went out, but I really have not heard of the newer trucks having that much of a problem.

Fill out your sig so we can see the details of your truck...

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/....html?t=224825

If you fill the tank, and it still won't crank, I'd look at the lift pump. If it does crank and run fine up till a 1/4 tank, then you might have some pick-up issues.

Don't forget to start in the cheapest place first, fuses and wire connections.

Keep us posted.

Yep... fuel filter is the second thing to check... I've been in Japan too long...

Sig is your signature... all that stuff at the bottom of my post that has all of my trucks modifications in it.

If you follow those links, it'll show you how to do it.

Foxtrot is giving you a good tip. I do too, might get your truck back to
purring down the highway instead of sitting on side of the road.

Don't forget to put the wrench in the truck for the filter top. Not everyone carries the big wrenches (sockets) with them all the time.
