Brakes sticking....HELP
Brakes sticking....HELP
Hello Everyone: This is my first post here. I have a 2005 2500 4WD 4 door that just turned 100,000 miles. For the last couple of weeks my braked pedal has been sticking as it goes down, like something is hanging up. You have to hook your foot under it and bring it back up to get it to totally release. I had the brakes redone at a local brake shop...not the problem. NEED SOME HELP!!

Slow Brake Pedal Return 1. Excessive seal friction in booster. 1. Replace booster.
ACCUMULATOR LEAKDOWN
Start the engine, apply the brakes and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. This will ensure the accumulator is charged. Turn off the engine and let the vehicle sit for one hour. After one hour there should be at least two power assisted brake application with the engine off. If the system does not retain a charge the booster must be replaced.
With the engine off depress the brake pedal several times to discharge the accumulator. Grasp the accumulator and see if it wobbles or turns. If it does the accumulator has lost a gas charge and the booster must be replaced.
1 - PUMP
2 - GEAR
3 - INPUT SEAL
4 - HOUSING SEAL
5 - ACCUMULATOR SEAL
6 - PISTON SEAL
7 - SPOOL PLUG SEAL
8 - RETURN PORT FITTING SEAL

Good post by BigIron. Check for brake fluid leaks below the brake booster, then at each caliper (wheel). If nothing then it's time to check the pads and rotors. Could be that the pads failed and have torn into the rotors, especially if they (brakes) haven't been replaced before. Could be a backing plate tearing into the rotor. Worth a shot, it's cheaper than a master cylinder.
Thanks for the info..This has been making me crazy for a couple of weeks now. It started by simply acting like the brake pedal was hanging up under the dash. After lubing everything under there I realized that it had to be something else. It literally "Pops" as you are applying the brake and then hangs up and won't come back up. I'll check out the booster tomorrow. Thanks again.
Bigiron was right
Bigiron was right on the money with the booster. I went to the Local Dodge dealer to check on parts! New booster 622.00 they don't make the old style any more, but wait the new booster doesn't fit the old master cylinder, new master 254.00 various parts and fluid 90.00 or Napa 199..00

All I can say is "Yikes". I only know much older brake systems. Hopefully somebody knows of a cheaper fix.
