Sounds like power shorted to ground. Sometimes this can be as simple as a bad lamp that has shorted inside itself. First thing I'd do is replace both rear lamps.

Try looking at the wires on the brake pedal. Do you have a trailer brake?
Also, it is not likely, but try pulling the hazard and turn signal flashers.
george

No no trailer brakes just stock brakes all the wires by the pedal seem to be good could it be a wire grounded somewhere? IF so how could this happen and how could i find it?? because the wire for the brake lights should only be hot when the brake is depressed right? So i could not use a test light correct??? and every time i depress the brakes the fuse pops???? I am confused?

-bewilderedIan

Of course you could use an ohm meter, but it will show a short in any case because of the bulbs. You would have to remove the bulbs and the flashers, I think.
One place to look is on the driver's side firewall just under the brake. there is a little alcove there with the connections to the rear of the truck. These wires can become corrupted.
Another good place to check is the connectors at the rear of the truck behind the bumper. Water can get in here and cause trouble. By disconnectiong things as you go, you could try to isolate the short.
