Boost Gauge Noise

Installed new boost guage 4 months ago. This is the second time I've installed one. First truck works great. Gauge seemed to work good, but "rattled" or "vibrated" as boost built, and stopped making these noises as soon as boost leveled off.

I replaced the gauge and it still does it. I also noticed on the first install the 3/4 inch fitting I used (mounted it right next to the MAP sensor port) wasn't completely snug and that the threads on the engine intake were dirty. I cleaned the threads, tightened the fittings and ops checked the gauge - noise definately lessened. It still makes the noise though.

ANYONE EVER HEAR THIS NOISE COMING FROM THE BOOST GAUGE?

Re:Boost Gauge Noise

Mine did it as well. I used copper line instead of plastic. Turns out the copper was picking up vibration from the engine and causing the ticking noise. To make matters worse the line was touching the firewall and that acted as a resonator and only made it worse.

I wanted the copper line because it's more durable and heat won't affect it. My fix was to still use the copper, but once I got past the engine (and just before going through the firewall) I cut the copper and spliced in plastic line. No more ticking noise.

If your using copper, than that is probably your problem. If it's plastic that your using, than I have no clue. Kevin

Sigh...plastic. One other thing...when I pulled the line off the gauge I could hear the airflow vibrating - don't know if that helps or not. If I don't hear anything by tomorrow I'll pose the question on the aftermarket forum.

Re:Boost Gauge Noise

I've got plastic line on mine, and it can hear it vibrateing with the radio off. I know my noise is the line vibrateing because the noise comes from down in the dash. Same situation, it rattles as boost is built then quits. I just turn the radio up a little louder.
