Bleed procedure not working

Just replaced the fuel filter on my truck and filled with diesel. Tried to just start the truck but it wouldnt fire up. Performed bleed procedure at the fuel inlet banjo bolt and fuel was spraying out with good presure. I tried starting about 10 more times with no luck. I finally began the procedure for bleeding the high pressure lines, but no fuel will come out. My manual says to disconnect the fuel cutoff solenoid, but I can't find that part anywhere on my truck. Is that important to do? Could this be shutting the fuel off? Where is it located?

If it's on your 24V there's no fuel cutoff solenoid- you seem to have the manual for an older truck. Open the injector lines on the cylinder head of 3 cylinders and let the engine turn over by starter until it starts to cough like Mr Marlboro in the morning. Tighten the lines and see if it fires up. If you've got air in there it will take it's time to get it out.

Thanks for the info Alpineram.

I have done the fuel inlet bleed procedure 3 times with plenty of fuel coming out each time. I have also made about 15 attempts at starting with the #3 injector loosened. No gas is spilling from the injector, and my truck has made no attempt to start whatsoever. Each start attempt I crank for 20 seconds with 5min between attempts.

Towing the rig to a mechanic is the last option I want to do, so any other suggestions are appreciated.

He said to crack 3 lines. Not #3. I ran out of fuel when my tank level sensor crapped out on me. I just cracked #1 injector at the head, bled it, then cranked until i had fuel.

I then tightened it, went into the cab and cranked on it until it started sputtering. It will be longer than a 20 second crank. I know the manual says 30 seconds, but leave it for a couple seconds (not 5 min) and crank some more.

If you can't get any fuel out of 3 cracked injector lines after a few 30 sec cranks, your sucking air or the IP is shot.

Been there, man.

Redpoint5,

I had the same problem as you, a couple weeks ago. Only I didn't have any clean diesel to fill the filter bowl. I followed the bleed procedure as you stated. I lost count of how many LP bump cycles I went thru. I did crack #1 & #3 injectors until I had fuel running out and got a cough/sputter from the engine. Tighten the injectors up and still had to go thru 2 more bump cycles before she rolled over. Hope this helps.

Just want a clarification of what it means to crack the fuel injectors. Does it mean just loosen the nut a couple turns, or back them all the way off. I'll try to start the truck again tomorrow.

you do not need to take the nut all the way out. Crack the nut a couple turns. You can have some one crank the engine while you do it. Remember- there is alot of pressure there. wear face protection and gloves.
It doesn't take a lot of cracking at all.

I cracked 3 injectors a couple turns and cranked the engine for 30 seconds... Not even the slightest sputter. I waited about 2min and cranked again. After about 10 seconds on the second crank it started sputtering and spewing gas all over. I tightened the injectors and "Big Yellow" is running perfect again.

Thanks for your advice guys. I would have taken the thing to a mechanic if people hadn't told me to be more patient.
