2001 2500 w/156,000 miles
I have a Hallmark pop up camper on my rig...nothing for this beast usually however yesterday I was trying to back up a hill and I had no horsepower, the truck would not move .
I did however have a lot of black smoke pouring out.
I was eventually able to pull it down to a flat spot and get a running start and when the RPM's got up it cruised right up.
I recently replaced fuel pump and injector pump.
This was more than just a little embarrasing being such a large full sized truck with seemingly endless horsepower.
Any suggestions appreciated.
I recently installed an Edge Comp and have since noticed some black smoke with throttle and also torque converter shutter, so I turned edge comp down which helped some.
Could this be my transmission going?

clogged air filter?? can cause lots o black smoke and low power
those 2nd gen's get filters real dirty unless you move the crankcase breather tube...all the oil flying around clogs everything up including the radiator fins...any way the filter is a cheap easy place to check.

 

Replaced airfilter with K&N..I will see what happens.
