Band Adjustment

Trying to adjust the front band on my transmission. The directions from this site say to loosen the lock nut and tighten the bands to 72in. pounds and then back off 13/4 turns. The problem is it does not say which way is tightening. If I go clockwise, it does not get tight.

Am I correct in the assumption that the band screw goes counter-clockwise to tighten?

Well what I have in mind does not match what you said you read ,
After loosening the outer luck nut , you turn the center in snug / till it touches , then back out the 1 3/4 , while holding center bolt , torque the lock nut to 72 in lbs .
Its all right hand threads , so righty tighty , lefty losey .
I going to check my memory .

OK. I guess I figured it out...Just had to screw the adjuster nut in a little further (Clockwise) and then it tightened. Backed it off 1 3/4 and then tightened lock nut to 30ft Pounds while holding adjuster nut.

Yeah...

Tighten the center stud to 72 in/lbs... or for those not to good in math 6 ft/lbs... and back off 1 3/4 turns...
*(recomendation- do this very slowly if you are using a torque wrench set for ft/lbs... 6 lbs is very light and if you are not watching you'll go past it... Your not going to get that go ole snap like when your tightening at 30 ft/lbs... you'll probably not hear it or feel it... just watch the knuckle for when it breaks loose... otherwise you continue past 6 ft/lbs....)

Then hold the center stud and hand tighten the outer nut, so the inner stud doesn't turn... then tighten to 30 ft/lbs.....

band adjustment

Is it not recomended too just adjust the outer band because of the way it goes back to first for the third gear shift . Also my truck is a 2001 an I am
thinking its the 47RE is there a tag or number on it somewhere that identifies it .?
