Atf+4
Atf+4
I took my truck in to have the TC changed out and I asked about ATF+4. The guy say he never heard of it and they use Micron 4 or 5. My question is are they the same? If not I told the guy that I would go get it and bring it to them.

Micron 4 or 5? Are you sure they don't mean "Mercon"? There are 2 companys that I know of that make an ATF+4 equivalent. One is Amsoil, the other is Valvoline's MaxLife ATF. I believe ATF+4 is a Chrysler trademark so the bottle won't refer to the fluid in that manner. It can say ATF +4 compatible and I know it says so on the MaxLife stuff. Ive used it in my transfer case. Chrysler has a lock on ATF+4 and is using it as a way to squeeze more money out of its customers.
BTW, I had my '02 in for tranny service and the cost was well over $120.00 for fluid and a filter.

Many of the diesel tranny rebuilders use and recommend Mercon or Dexron even when ATF +3 or +4 is recommended.
It won't harm your tranny but you might experience jerkier shifts, if it bothers you add a bottle of Lube-Gard.
