Mine did the same thing and it was the AC compressor clutch.

Ya, that is what i just found. IT locked up and ate my belt. I mod'ed it by bypassing the AC for now, I just ordered a reman. Compressor, the clutch was as much as the reman compressor with new clutch.
Need to get it vac'ed and recharged next.

If your vents just happen to be full of gas and a tech uses an open flame to check for leaks the gas will explode in the vent and has killed mechanics before then you’re not only liable but accountable legally for their injuries and or death. If a shop find out you have Propane in your truck's AC they will show you the door. Good GOD man think about what you’re doing. You cook with propane and heat homes with it.
I haven't used my Halide Torch in years; you bring up a good point.

Propane is heavier than air and could accumulate in the ducts or on the floor in a concentration enough for an explosion.

As for the whole propane thing, what if you are in a wreck? Have family in the car? What about the "other car"? Some things you can save money on, anything that can cause a potential safety hazard isn't one of them! My family is more important.

I wouldn't want to think of the legal ramifications if that truck was in a accident. Man you got to think a little more, one little leak and if it gets into a electrical switch your done like dinner. I hope you don't let your family in that thing.
