ABS Light
ABS Light
I just got done pulling one of my freind out of the mud. While I was pulling him out my red (BRAKE) and yellow ((ABS)) light came on and are staying on. Could this be the speed sensor that is mounted ontop of my rear diff ??
Re:ABS Light
That is entirely possible that the wires on your speed sensor got goofed up. If your speedometer still works normally I would question it personaly. Did you check the fuse? I know it sounds dumb, but I was pulling a trailer and the wiring shorted when I was stopping blowing the fuse. When the fuse blew the brake and abs lights came on and went out after changing the fuse.

Yes I did check the fuse and it is good, also my speedometer is working great. So do you think it could be the sensor?

Re:ABS Light
I checked my Haynes manual and it says to:
#1. Make sure the brakes, calipers and wheel cylinders are in good condition.
#2. Checkthe electrical connectors at the contron modual assembly.
#3. Check the fuses.
#4. Follow the wiring harness to the speed sensor and valve and make sure all connections are secure and the wiring isn't damaged.
I kinda think that it is a wiring problem in the back of the truck. Since you were helping a friend get unstuck that seems lie the most likely place to start.

Re:ABS Light
I just did some more reading and it also said that you can jumper the connector under the knee bolster for the rwal and pull codes. The wire to jumper to ground momentarily is # 13 (the black wire terminal) and watch the amber light.Fault codes wil be displayed by a long flash, followed by a series of short flashes. Count the flashes and it will tell you what codes are stored. They go all the way from #1 (not used) to # 15. If you do this post the code(s) and I will look them up for you.

Re:ABS Light
Just in case the mudding fix dosn't last or this happens again. I believe there are sensors at each wheel for your ABS. I have seen them in the front when working there but haven't had the reason to work on the back yet. Here comes my suggestion and question. Could a dirty wheel sensor give you these indications? I think they are magnetic and had brake dust and stuff on them. Also, did you check brake fluid levels? I have heard the front brake lines are quick to leak or possibly take a gulp of air. Just looking for some information here and possibly give some. ;D
Re:ABS Light
If you have drums in the back and not disk, I believe you have rear wheel ABS only and you have already received the goods on it. If you have disks all the way round and 4 wheel ABS, then you have more to check next time. Your wheel sensors have to be able to pick up signal from the wheel tone rings. WHich could have been dirty and not allowing the pick up to accurately indicate wheel speeds. Just guessing but is is sort of educated. Any help form others on this would help me to understand it better as well. Sorry to piggyback but I like to be informed too! ;D
Re:ABS Light
Thanks for all the help yall. I have put a good 1,800 miles on the truck since the other day and the lights are staying off. I have four-wheel disk brakes on my pickup.
