probably need to bleed the system. I experienced the same issue.

yes. From what I've experienced when changing any of the brake components it's best to bleed all the air, etc from the lines. For a short trick try leaving the cap off the master cyclinder and pumping the break pedal a bunch...sometimes the air will come back out this way; if not then you'll have to open the bleeder valves at the calipers.
