aaarrrrgggg dam valve springs....help

Im thinking Im doing something wrong....

I can t compress the spring enough to hit the piston? and thus break the keeper loose.

I turn the engine clockwise till the intake valve closes.....I remove the rockers, put the spribg compressor on, turn it down till the spring is stacked against itself, and the valve / spring assembly will move .250 or so up and down but not hit the piston? So I can t get the keepers loose cause the retainer is still on the valve. Eve if I could get lucky, I m afraid of how far the valve might fall, and the new 60 lb springs will be impossible to get compressed enough esspecially if the valve falls further when the stock spring comes off.....

Any recomendations?

Have you found TDC? If so, #1 and #6 pistons will be at the top. Mark your balancer at 120 degrees and 240 degrees. At 120, pistons #2 and #5 will be at the top. At 240, #3 and #4 will be.

if you do it like the manual says then you're fine, but if you are turning the engine over in the front then the order is opposite after you do #1&#6 at TDC----chris

found the problem.....I was turning till the intake valve closes.....thinking thats when tdc would be.....Its when the intake valve just begins to open....whatch the exhuast close....then the intake just starts to lift....the piston is real close....as it hppens just close enought to stack the spring on itself, let the valve down to the piston and just have enough room to get the keepers out.....

The rest will be easy , except the last three valves.....

Btw, what do I torque the head bolt to that hold the rocker block down?
