99 automatic won't shift

I have a 1999 ,3500 ,Cummins ,automatic {stock},170k,yesterday after leaving home I drove about 8 miles ,trans was fine, came up to stop sign, took off and it went staight to OD, I stopped and took off again ,it did the same thing, straight to OD {or at least drive } almost killed the motor.Went ahead to car wash, shut off the truck. After the wash started down the road ,now it won't shift out of first, limped home at 20 mph .Not a seconds problem before yesterday.Could someone please help with this or at least a phone number to call for imfo on this problem.Need truck ASAP!!! THANKS,

modguy, sorry about your tranny problems! If it were my truck I would call the guys at DTT (Diesel Transmission Technology) Their web link (and phone numbers) are in our "Links" section.

Good luck, and keep us posted on how you make out.

Had the same problem on my 01 CTD at 76K. Sounds like the governor pressure selenoid in the tanny is dead. It is a little electronic black box that communicates with the pcm about the tanny pressure.
It is an easy fix, usually under $80 for the part. You will have to drop the tranny oil pan to access it. It is located on the passenger side and has two torx head bolts holding it in place. Tool me about 20 minutes to fix. Ran perfect after.

I installed a switch that grounds the tranny wire at the ECM. This is exactly what your truck is doing! I use it to loc up the TC. You may want to check for a grounded wire. It's the orange & blk wire in the center plug of the ECM behind the air box.
Good luck!
